July 2009 Healthy Living event for service users
Holding an afternoon filled with interesting workshops, stalls and displays promoting a healthy
lifstyle was top of the list of suggestions put forward by our service user Healthy Living
Group.
We linked up with group partner, Russet Homes, to turn this exciting idea into a reality. The
Healthy Living event was offered free of charge and attended by around 300 support service users
and Russet Homes tenants.
This year we decided to hold it jointly with Russet Homes as we both wanted a healthy living
theme. Tenants and service users suggested the theme and have been actively involved throughout the
preparations and came up with many of the ideas such as the mini Olympics.
Visitors enjoyed dancing and healthy living displays in the arena, a community chef giving cookery
displays on seasonal menus for under £5, Energy Saving Trust car simulator, Skip2Bfit
demonstrations, fruit tasting, fun competitions, taking part in a mini Olympics and so much
more.
Improving people's life chances is at the heart of both our organisations and we hope our Healthy
Living event will give tenants and service users helpful tips and advice about how to stay fit and
well through leading a healthier lifestyle.
As a growing business Invicta Telecare recognises the importance of understanding service users'
needs and aspirations to ensure it improves and develops in line with their requirements.
The Healthy Living group is one of a range of influential service user involvement groups set up to
help shape and improve the support they receive and make recommendations about the way it is
delivered.
